KAITANGATA NOTES

Haymaking operations are proceeding on some of the farms.

A meeting of the Borough Council took place last evening, the Mayor (Mr P. Wouness) presiding over a full attendance of councillors. —Ihe ranger and poundkeeper (Mr Richardson) handed in his resignation owing to the attitude taken up by certain councillors. The Mayor explained that no councillor had any more right or authority to interfere with employees outside the council than ratepayers. It was eventually resolved that the matter be deferred.—The Bruce County Council -vrrote giving intimation of the fact that a syndicate had approached them in regard to draining Tuakitoto and Kaitngata Lakes, and requesting the Kaitangata Borougli's representation at a meeting to be held at Stirling shortly. It lias been stated that it is the intention of the syndicate to acquire adjoining lands on the flat, to deepen the canal, and erect locks and pumping stations. —The Mayor, Cr Wilson, and the Town Clerk wero authorised to represent the council.—The Minister of Finance advised that, owing to shortage of funds the loan of £IOO for Granton Township drainage could not be given. Advances wero strictly limited to the construction of roads and bridges in the backblocks. Left to Mayer and Clerk. —Cr Donaldson, for the Works Committee, reported on the Creek lock, which, he thought, should hi en ,the Kaitangata bridge, nearer the creek outlet. Deferred. —Valuations on residential frontages at Clyde terrace, for road widening, totalled £175, surveyors' fees £ls, and other expenses. —The dog tax was fixed at 7s 6d, E. Richardson being appointed collector at 6d per head. —Cr Shaw brought up the question of a very necessary bridge to replace the Matau punt, and suggested cooperation of district local bodies to force the Government's hands. The Mayor and every councillor spoke strongly in support and Cis Shaw, Gage, and Wilson, with the Mayor, were deputed to further the idea on the lines indicated by the mover.—Over £l5O was passed for payment.—Own correspondent.
