ASHBURTON, October 7. A member of Parliament, speaking to a ‘ Guardian ’ representative, stated that the Government seemingly intended exercising their right, under the Legislature Act, with regard to members’ salaries. Under this Act the Government have the right to deduct £2 per day for every day a member is absent without leave, and in the case of at least two members who had exceeded this period, having been on visits to the Old Country, the rule has been ap-' plied. In one case (that of a prominent member of the Opposition) the deduction of £2 per day would come to a larger amount than the payment for the period the member was present, and thus he would be brought in debt to the Treasury,
