THE GOVERNMENT'S BLUNDER. (London Times-Sydney Sun Special Cable.) LONDON, August 20. 'The Times' says that the Government were extremely ill-advised in refusing to partake in the Panama Exhibition. "It is always annoying to be obliged to acknowledge a mistake, but we give credit to our rulers for having statesmanship enough to make good a blunder when they understand that one has been made." GERMANY ALSO BLUNDERS. • BERLIN, August 20. (Received August 21, at 9 a.m.) Herr Balling (of the North German S.S. Company) says that the Government's refusal to take part in the San Francisco Exhibition is a serious mistake, and that he will endeavor to arrange for a. representative exhibit without Government aid. Many_ textile manufacturers are also complaining. WRONGLY INFLUENCED. BERLIN, August 20. (Received August 21, at 8.5 a.m.) The 'Frankfort Gazette' regards abstention from the San Francisco Exhibition as a mistake. The Government had been chiefly influenced by the iron and steel industries. The paper claims that •the textile and other industries should have received greater consideration.
