THE PRIME MINISTER
-Uho Hon. AV. F. Alassoy formally opened the new Boys’ High’ School at limaru yesterday in the presence of a large assemblage. In the course of liis remarks he, complimented the school on the. determination to specialise in agriculture, and said that the Government were determined to push on land .settlement to the utmost, and he asked the people to support this policy. Replying to a deputation from the banners’ .Union with reference to the shortage of farm labor, outdoor and indoor, and cropping restrictions on tease-in-perpetuity lands, Air Massey said that the farmer wanted skilled men able to take charge of horses, implements, and machinery, ami Sir Rider Haggard had told him that such men were as scarce at Home as hero, ihon, as such men did not remain Servants all their lives, a continual stream of young men suited for the wonc was required. The Government had been assisting ploughmen and domestics, and ho woxild propose a larger sum for tho purpose. Air Alassoy reached Dunedin by tho first express to-day. He will return to Christchurch to-morrow, and proceed to Hanmer on Saturday.
