The British steamer Indrakuala collided ■with and sank tho steamer Julia Lucbenback {5,100 tons) in Chesapeake Bay. The captain and his wile and 20 sailors of the Julia Luchenbach were drowned. Six sailors, who chmg to the rigging for hours benumbed with cold, were finally rescued. The terrific storm, which has been raging on the Atlantic coast paralysed the resellers' efforts, (Received January 6, at 8 a.m.) The Indrakula rescued six of the crew of the Lnchenbach. LONDON, January 4. The Cunard liner Syria picked up seven boats containing 98 of the passengers and crew of the French steamer Saint Augustin near Bona. The Saint Augustin sprang a leak and sank. DERELICT. SYDNEY, January 5. fhe captain of the Thora reports having sighted a dismasted vessel 300 miles from Capo Farewell. She was apparently from Newcastle, coal-laden, and had mot with trouble off the New Zealand coast. The Thora signalled, but got no reply. (Received January 6 at 8 a.m.) The vessel sighted by the 'Thora was a large barque. Her foretopmast, foretop-gallant-mast, and main top-gallant-mast were gone, and other damage had been done. Some of her sails were standing. NORWEGIAN SHIP’S ESCAPE*. SYDNEY, January 5. The Norwegian ship Gunda., 110111“ Marseilles, has been towed to Sydney badly damaged. During a cyclonic storm in Jervis Bay she was thrown on her beam ends. Her decks were swept and her boats smashed. She had a. narrow escape fiom foundering. The ship's cock was twice washed overboard and washed on board again.
