WAIPORI.

TO THE EDITOR. SjilV e are now in the happy position of being able to remove the irksome restrictions wo have had in the past to place oy consumers. and to receive all applications for power ns may come along/' 80 says tlio chairman of'the Electric Power and Lighting Commit-tea in his latest, bulletin on Waipori. they will receive them, no doubt, as they generally receive all" their other applications, and attend to them at (heir own sweet will. If there is one corpoiation department calling for dose investigation it is most assuredly the electric power and light department. .More wid l.e said later. T wonder if tho recent agitation by a section of Port Chalmers residents against- the payaicnt of a guarantee for an electric installation to their seaport in any way accelerated the issuing of this bulletin?

Iho City Council at their meeting on Wednesday are U> bo called on to decide whether they will (V.mcthm tho expending or some £6.000 or more on an electric tumsmission line to Port Chalmers to supply that borough with power and light. It is to be sincerely hoped that tho proposition will be thwarted, and conncilior.s shown that a halt must be made in this heavy expenditure of the ratepayers’ money upon an enterprise which, unless drastic curtailment is at onto adopted, will prove, to be not (as it was placarded at a recent exhibition) Dunedin's greatest asset, hut Dunedin's greatest blunder. Tho action of the tneinheis of the City Council over this AVa.ipon scheme is being < loH'ly watched liv unite a large section of the community. Defore eonrluding, 1 would just like to ask this : Is it right for the chief electrical enebver to absent himself from Dunedin for over a week during the absence of his assistant, who is away on holidays? Would some councillor please inquire who is in Mr Henderson's place, and who was in contiol during the absence of the chief engineer?.-! am. etc., Cm/.F.x. January 4.

TO TTIK KDITOK. Sir, —I was called upon the oilier day hv a rrsido.nt of the ward in which t reside asking me to aU.u It my name (o a petition requesting one, of our councillors in make objections to the City Council enteiing into an agreement with Port Chalmers borough Council to supply them with electric power and energy until such time as it. is piovon that there is sufficient to satisfy all local iequircMiicnls, etc. To my mind a most reasonable request, and one I earnestly hope will be carried out. to the vciv letter. If Port Chalmers want electric light in such a hurry, let them ereit a plant of their own, or wait until onr City and those district* around it already partly reticulated are given the lirst chance. Wily Dunedin's electrical engineer should have to seek fields outside the present reticulated area, for the sale of electric energy .should require some answering. This line to Port Chalmers, according to the chaitman of the lihwtric Power and Lighting Committee, will cost several thousands to erect, and [ contend that Dunedin at the present time is heavily enough involved over this Wainori scheme- without saddling the City with any further liability. Enough of the ratepayers’ money has been oquandeted in the past on useless projects, and it is to he sincerely hoped that an emphatic ”Xo" will he (lie verdict when the proposal conies up for disrasDon.. —1 am, etc.. Rathi-avur. Jannarv 4.
