He was playfully handling a gun. not knowing it was loaded. The weapon exploded, and the contents entered the girl's side, killing her almost immediately. Charles Wentherall Hatchard, 50 years of ago, residing at Batli street, Christchurch, was drowned while bathing at Sumner yesterday. Frederick Aims, an old resident of the Thames, who received injuries by being struck on the racecourse at the late local meeting, died in the Thames Hospital today. Me never regained consciousness. Mr IC Modes was motoring up Stuart street to-day on his way homo to lunch, and in attempting to steer dear of two ladies who were crossing the street ho ran into one of (ho Roslyn and Kaikorai Company’s tramcars. One of the front wheels of_ the motor car was smashed, and Mr Males was thrown out, his head comiim in contact with the tramcar. Mr MTilos had a fortunate escape, as, though he is bruised and shaken, no bones were" broken. A cyclist named James Simon was riding round the corner of Stuart and Cumberland streets this morning, when an express collided with him. The cyclist had 1 his head and hand cut. Thos. Niccol, aged 28, while at work on machinery conveying coke from the Auckland gasworks to the outside yards, was entangled in the machinery and killed. Others working near heard the cries of agony, and stopped the machinery, but. this was not effected until Niccol had been practically disembowelled. He died half an hour later. He was single,’ and a former resident of Sydney.—Auckland telegram.
