The holidays now being over, business ■will settle down moTe steadily. Jam fruits are beginning to come forward in fair supplies—-red and black currants, strawberries, and raspberries in particular! However, the demand is still unsatisfied. Light shipments of North Island grown plums are coming forward. The season. however, should be in full swing in about a fortnight's time. Very few outsidegrown tomatoes are coming forward from the North, and the market is solely supplied with Canterbury hothovse. The first shipment of sweet navel oranges is duo to arrive ex the Tahiti, due on Monday. Up to the 'present these have been very sour, and from a retailer's point of view a very unsatisfactory line. American apples are finished for the season, and further shipments are not expected. -Shipments of Auckland potatoes have stopped owinjj to the -unprofitable returns, and there is a much better demand for Oamaru-grown, which are now realising up to 14s a cwt in cases. - This is for carefully-graded lines. Black and red currants, on stems. 5Ad to 4d. ' * Raspberries. 5d lb, in 131b buckets. Grapes.—Local hothouw, 2« to 2s 6d; Auckland-grown, Is 6d to Is 9d lb. Strawberries.—Extra choice from 2d to lid punnet; choice from. 8d to 9d ; small. 6d to 7d. Cherries.—New locals from 7d to 9d lb ; good demand. Dates.—New seasons bulk, 18s cwt. Gooseberries.—Ripe dessert, 6d ib ; small, 4d; green, large, 2d lb. Cucumbers.—Local grown, 6s to 7k dozen; Queensland-grown, 12* to 13s per case of six dozen. Vegetable marrows, 6s to 7s per dozen. New Potatoes.—The market jr. easier. Choice locals, 2d; Aucklands, which ars now fully ripo, in cases, 12s cwt; bags, 9s. Green Peas.—Supply is steady. Choice locals up. to 2d lb. Rhubarb.—Practically finished for the sesson, 12s cwt. Tomatoes.—Local hothouse. Is ; Christchurch, lOd lb; Nelson and Aucklandgrown up to B£d. Pines.—Choice Fijians, 10s. Victorian cherries, ex Manuka, arrived in fair condition, 201b boxes 'realising 7a 6d; 361b crates, 16s to 20s, according to quality. Italian* Lemons.—Half boxes, 150-180's, 16s. Oraugea—American navels and Jaffas, ex Tahiti, containing 150-200 fruit to the case, 18s. Bananas.—Green fruit, 10s case; ripe 2*rf 3b. Japanese Peanuts.—No. 1, 2Jd lb. Cauliflowers.—Very scarce. Extra choice up to 10s dozen. Cabbages.—Large heads, 4s to 5s per sack. Apples.—American, 15s to 16s case ; local, 10s per bushel box. Peaches and apricots, 201b boxes, 6s 6d to 7s case. Logan Ben-ies.—The first consignments reaching the market will find Teacly buyers up to lb. These arc- infinitely superior to respberries for jam-ma-ldng. Walnuts.—Choice, 7Jd lb. Peaches and Apricots (ex Manuka). — 201b boxes realised 7s 6d to 8s 3d. Auckland Plums.—Cherry variety, 4:, case for ripe; Japanese, rather green", only suitable for stewing, 3s per 201b box. Produce.—Supplies from the country are •very light. The bulk of the oats coming forward are low grade- samples, for which there, is practically no inquiry. Good bright Gartons, Duns, whole fowl wheat, chaff are steady at present, quotations, while the market is just fairly well supplied. Guaranteed stamped oggs have advanced a peny per dozen again this week. There is a. better inquiry for farmers' butter, while good pigs have advanced to 6d lb. Good lines of poultry find ready buyers. Old Potatoes. —Practically unsaleable, £5 per ton. Oamaru Potatoes.—New locals, 14s per cwt (in cases). Straw.—Baled wheat-en, 40s to 425; oaten, up to 40s. Chaff.—Market poorly supplied. Good, bright, heavy oat sheaf is saleable up to £3 15s; medium, tip to £3 ss. Oats.—Better demand for good brightlines. Good, clean Gartons, 2s 3d to 2s 4d ; discolored, 2s Id to 2s 3d; Blacks. Is lOd to 2s; Black Rivals, Is lid to 2s; Danish, 2s ; Duns, 2s to 2s id ; Sparrowbills, good bright, up to 2s Ojd ; discolored, up to 2s. Fowl Wheat. —More plentiful, nothing but good lines meeting with any inquiry. We. quote up to 3s 3d, slightly shrivelled up to 3s Id. broken lines from 2s 9d to 2s lid. Hams.—2olb to 301b weight hams. 9d per ' Eggs. Market fiim. Guaranteed stamped, Is Id to Is 2d ; ordinary case lots, Is. " Butter.—Market fully supplied.
