NOTES BY " ONLOOKEE." Harry Trott has made an unfortunate start in the Dominion tour of the South Melbourne cricket team. Going in first both at Masterton and Blenheim, he failed to score on each occasion. Young Cis Dacre, the 13-year-old schoolboy of Devonport, Auckland, registered another fine performance on Saturday week, when he scored a faultless 175 for the North Shore fourth grade team against Lden. This brought his aggregate for the season to 1,025 runs—sß3 for the fourth grade team of his club, 44 for the second eleven, and 393 for Ms school. He has scored five centuries, and his average for fourth grade cricket is 145.7. His 175 on the 14th inst. was made without boundaries, and included two 7*s and three 6's. Dacre, in addition, took eight wickets for 22 runs the same afternoon. In Wellington the complaint is regularly made that the public do not show interest in cricket, judging by the poor attendances at the principal games. South Australia, playing on their owrground, put up the fine score of 559 agaii'sr New South Wales. Centuries we-'c scored by Mayne (124), Chamberlain {Vy,), and Steele (not out, 123). Victor Tr'unper, who has been batting in great f,/;n; m Sydney this season, was dismal f-.,r a duck. New South Wales meat Vklcna at Melbourne on Boxing Day in their timekonored fixture. "I don't think New Zealand cricket is properly rated," said Mr M'Mullen, captain of the visiting New South Wales teachers' team, at a- gathering at Wellington on Thursday evening. " I understand that soon a New South W 7 ales eleven are to come over here, and, in my small way, I will do all I can to persuade them to make; it as strong a team as possible. New Zealanders are all too modest about their cricket, but, in mv opinion, they could''raise an eleven to do credit to themselves in a match with tho Australians."
