CITY POLICE COURT,

(Before W. R. Haselden, Esq., S.M.) Drunkenness.—A first offender was convicted and discharged; three who did not appear were ordered to forfeit the amount of their bail (10s); William Arthur Iveenan was convicted and discharged; and John Page (who did not appear) was fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Theft of Coal—William Alex. Moore pleaded guilty to having stolen a bag or coal and of wood, the property of H Guthrie and Co.—Chief-detective Herbert said that this man had been employed by Mr Guthrie, and when taking a jj ° f coal t0 Profess °r Park's he added two bags above the quantity ordered and was going away with these when Mr Guthrie observed him and accused him. He admitted the theft, stating that he was short of coal at home. The coal, however, did not arrive at accused's home, for Detective \\ard had made inquiries, which showed that the coal had never gone to his home. Accused was a married man with three children and a very respectable wife. He was a chronic drunkard, who was dismissed from his last employment under suspicion of dishonesty. —I he Magistrate: You will be remanded for sentence in custodv. You will spend Christmas Day in gaol Breach of Prohibition.—David Bayne a prohibited person, pleaded guilty to having procured liquor. He said that he had been unable to sleep, and that was the reason of the lapse.—Subinspector Fouhy said that this man constantly getting bovs to go to £° te J S ™ nd - brin S him hquor.—He was nned 20s, in default seven days' imprisonment.

Threatening Behaviour and Assault. —Walter Kennedy, for whom Mr Hanlon appeared, pleaded guilty to having used threatening behaviour amounting to a technical assault.
