CHURCH OF CHRIST

The platform at the Tabernacle, King street, was last evening ,-ijjain occupied by Mr P. D. M'Callum, who spoke upon the theme 'Owl and Cfcsav." Having alluded 'to the ciivnm'stanres under which the Master made use of the words " Render unto Caesar the filings which are Ccesar's. and unto God the. things that are GodV the preacher referred to the fact that a man who has a perfectly developed nature has many sides to him", and his remarks went to prove tha.t in many phases of life the divine principle enunciated was applicable. In the Scripture we •were told to be diligent in business and faithful in this way, but it was possible to pay so much attention to business as to forget God. Hence the. significant statement that the love of money is the root of all evil. Often there was a contest between home ties and religion, but the claims of Gcd were superior to these of the home, for it was God who had made home possible for us. Pleasure and amusement of a true, elevating nature were good, but when men became so engrossed in pleasure-seek-ing as to forget God. when they were not regularly in the house of God, or when pleasure was being used not as a means to an end but as the end of life, then it was time to call a halt.
