WITHDRAWAL OF ISRITISH TROOPS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, November 16. The British troops in South Africa, with the exception of 6,500. will shortly be withdrawn. The reason assigned is that the Union has now its own scheme of defence. Sir C. F. Bevel's, the South African Commandant, who is at present in London, is surprised at the Imperial Government's sudden announcement, especially as the local defence force consists, of infantrv.
