ANNUAL MEETING. | Tho annual meeting of the above was held in the Trades Hall on Saturday night. Forty-nine members wore prosent, and Mr W. G. Cole presided. I The report and balance-sheet were adopted. From the report it was gathered that tho printing trade generally had been good, although it was not uncommon to have unemployed members; that tho amount of subscriptions (£155 16s 9d) constituted a record, and members wore congratulated on i there being no arrears of dues in any ' shape or form; that a measure of relief had been afforded distressed members of tho craft; that the union's congratulations to Messrs Forgusson and Mitchell on tho recent attainment of the firm's jubilee had been acknowledged by Mr John Mitchell, who hoped for a con- , tinuatiou of friendly relations; that correspondence inviting a donation tor the Technical School building had been ; answered by the board saying that tho i rules would not admit of a vote being \ made for that purpose, but that if, on j the completion of the building, u com- ] positors' class were formed the union would be recommended to subsidise it; that £7 7s had been subscribed in oneshilling donations by employees of the ; printing offices of the' City who appro- ' ciate work of the Dunedin and Suburban Reserves Conservation Society : in making "tho rough places plain," , and that the lion, secretary of the society (Mr A. Bathgate), in acknowledging cheque, expressed tho pleasure it gave him and his colleagues to receive ■ tangible evidence of interest in their labors on behalf of the community. _ ] Tho statement of assets and liabilities showed tho financial position of the union to bo: Assets, £B4O Is Id ; liabilities (clearance values and bonuses to members' credit), £"779 Gs ; leaving £'GO 15s Id balance of assets. Office-bearers were elected as follows: —President, Mr H. Smoaton ; vicepresident, Mr R. Hutchison; secretary, Mr A. Walker; treasurer, Mr R. Ferguson ; members of Hoard of Management, Messrs E. Haggott, A. IS. Rissmanii. and A. Tyrrell; trustees, Messrs A. Wilson and W. Notman ; auditors, Messrs W. Haird and C. Folev.

Resolutions were carried approving of the Otago Trades and Labor Council's having brought their rules conformity with the constitution of the United Labor party, and deciding to continue in affiliation with the council

and to join tho party through the council; committing the union to cooperating with and assisting the Trades and Labor Council in making their coming industrial exhibition a successful undertaking; granting £2 2s to tho Labor Day Association's prize fund; and supporting the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce in their efforts to obtain railway reform in reduced passenger rates from all stations to tourist and health resorts which are wholly or largely State-owned properties, in further facilities for week-end excursion tickets, and in using a sliding scale of lares for long-distance journeys. The retiring president (Mr Cole) was presented with a gold medal, the union's usual token of appreciation of a past president's services. Mr Colo, who was highly complimented by the president-elect on his discharge of the presidential duties, expressed the pleasure it had given him, m conjunction with the Board of Management, to carry on the work of tho union during liis term of office.
