Prsss Association-—By Telegraph—Copyright.
SPRINGFIELD (Illinois), August 25, (Received August 26, at 9.30 a.m.)
A negro chauffeur named Johnson murdered a white woman named Jiuth Powers, and then committed suicide. For a time there was every prospect of a repetition of the sanguinary race riots of four years ago. The people did not believe the murderer was dead, but Coroner Rhodes averted trouble by announcing that the people could view the body of the murderer.
