OPPOSITION LEADERSHIP.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE TO ACT. [From Ocr Parliamentary - Reporter.] WELLINGTON. August 26. A meeting of the Opposition party will be held on Wednesday to elect an executive committee, thus course having been decided upon 'last week as an alternative U> selecting a leader, when Sir Joseph Ward declined.,to take that position.- An Opposition member* told a pressman yesterday that the party were hardening up. There was much more cohesion amongst the members now than there had been 7or a considerable time. "We have dropped all personal feelings,'' he added,-"and are all rallying round the banner, and will be found fighting shoulder to shoulder. No more bitterness in debate towards those who deserted us in bur hour of need will be shown. It is now a matter for the electors to decide. As to the leadership, we find that it is not necessary to have one until we are effectively organised- There is no hurry to appoint a leader. Those who are clamoring for us to select one are not our friends, but are mostly Government members, backed bv the party newspapers." An executive will be set up to advise the party on matters of procedure and details of action. Probably there will be five or six members and a chairman, but the latter will not be in any way considered the Leader of the Opposition.
