FISH BY POST.

THE THEORY IN PRACTICE. [From Oue Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, August. 26. The fish-by-post scheme, though it has met with a good deal of ridicule in some quarters, is ye.fc held with very friendly esteem in those parts of the country where the novelty has been given a trial, according to the evidence of a big bateh of letters on the subject which have reached Mr Eli from benefactors to date. Among other testimonials he received last week is one from a large Dunedin firm, stating that people in the country are readily availing themselves of the advantages of "the innovation. Last month this firm despatched parcels of fish through the pest to 148 different customers at varying distances from the City, and during the past thre-3 week? of August 162 parcels wee.r sent out, which is pointed out to the PostmasterGeneral as being very satisfactory, especially in view of the fact that the scheme is still in its infancy, and therefore not yet in veTy wide operation. Every one of the customers so served has been perfectly satisfied, and no complaints have been received as to the freshness of the fish, while a large number of customers go to the trouble of communicating their appreciation of the facility by letter. It is pointed out by the firm in question that they aro only one of a number of fishmongers in the town, and that the total number of parcels posted from Dunedin would probably be very considerable.
