RAILWAY SERVANTS.
A branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants was formed at a meeting in'the Hillside Workshops Library oir Saturday evening. Mr J. S. Barnett (executive officer for the district) presided. The ballot for the election ol officers resulted as follows:—Chairman, Mr A. Melville; vice-chairman, Mr D. Mercer; treasurer, Mr 0. Brooks; secretary, Mr A. Peters. Two hundred and" twenty-six ballot papers had been issued, and 210 votes had been Tocnrded.
Mr M. J. Mack, general secretary of the society, who had journeyed from Wellington to participate in the opening function, delivered an address. He traced the history of the society, and showed that, commencing with a small meeting of five men held in Auckland, they now had a membership of over 7,000. and there were 45 branches throughout the Dominion. The following officers and committee were then elected :-—Trustees—Messrs A. Wilson, 0. E. Wilkins, E. ,1. Jenkins; auditors—Messrs A. J. Downing, G. Aitken. W. Fibbs ; committee—Messrs Holland, Stevens, Harrop, Pilkington, Stewart, Robertson, Dowland, Brookes, Wilson, Guild, Porter, Wilkinson, Howartson, Sullivan, Walker. Forty-three candidates were admitted into membership, making a total of 269.
