DEATH OF MR F. H. MORICE
EXPIRES ON THE STREET. Mr Francis Hcnrv Morice, J.P., district agent for the Public Trustee and Official Assignee, died very suddenly this morning'at Kim row. While spoakiii"- to a business friend he dropped to the ground, and expired ou tho instant. It appears that the deceased gentleman had kept an appointment with Mr J. Knox, of tho Drainage Board, to visit a property in a lane off Elm row, and inspect its drainage requirements, it is probable that ho took the hill too hurriedly and overtaxed bis heart. i)r Fleming, who was called, said there seemed to be no doubt that death was due to heart failure. The body was removed to tho Morgue. Mr Morice was born in loot at Colle, Canada, and in 1856 was taken bv his father to England. He was educated at Chigwell, Essex, and in Germany. He came to Lyttelton by the Mclita in 1867. and worked on a sheep run. In 1872 he joined the Police Force, was promoted to sergeant in four years, and was for a while sergeant in charge at Christchurch and Lyttelton. At Wellington afterwards he was acting sergeant-major. He left the force in 1892 to join the Public Trust Office. He opened the Greymouth district agency, and after 12 months there was transferred to Dunedin. where he has managed since. Mr Morice was a Freemason, a cricketer, and for a while an active member of the Otago Hussars, holding the rank of sergeant. By all with whom ho came into contact lie was very highly respected. His residence was at Burns street, Carisbrook, where he took a delight in gardening. Mrs Morice is left, and several children. Thero will probably be an inquest to-morrow morning. •
