THE TERRITORIALS.
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —I roc in to-night's 'Star 1 a statement from General Godlcy to t\ts effect that Territorials will not he liaii'o to be called out to preserve order in the event of a big strike occurrinfi; in New Zealand. This will no doubt quieten those alarmists who have bwn drawing pathetic, imaginary pictures of unfortunate "Terriers" shooting down fathers and brothers on strike. Thcs« people seem to think that we would, at the word of command, cheerfully shoot down relatives a.nd follow-vorkcrs. Utter rot! The law of the land has said that we must train for the dofonre of our country: and, though not relishing the compulsory part of the business, wo will do so. But to imagine that we would allow ourselves to bo used against our friends and fellowworkers is ridiculous. Wo are for ths defence of our country, not the suppression of it. An order to the above effect would lead to chaos.—l am, etc., Teuiiitorlh,. January 2fi.
