Sir James Mills, of Dunedin (says the ■'Leeds Post’), has undertaken his present visit to London with a view to placing orders for t wo new steamers of 10.000 kuw each, to be used in the now mail Service between Vancouver and Auckland. The time of transit from London to New Zealand will be about 33 days, as compared with the 37 taken by the vessels on the Sue? Canal route. The new steamers will have a speed of 17 knots, and will, according to an estimate prepared by Sir James Mills, have to earn. £IO,OOO a" month each to clear their heavy expenses.
