THE IRON INDUSTRY.

WELLINGTON, October 4. An appeal to harbor boards to support the local iron industry was made by a deputation of ironmasters to the Harbors Conference to-day. The recent statements r-s the languishing condition of the industry were reiterated , The Hon. C. M. Luke said it was not perhaps dignified to come as supplicants, but the trade was suffering, and they asked to be given a chance of tendering for work whenever possible. The Chairman of the Conference said the conference had_ been impressed with the necessity of doing something to help the industry. The matter would be duly dealt with.
