ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS.

Patrick Hayden, who stabbed himself ■with a penknife, died in the Wellington Hospital yesterday. He was 33 years of age. His widow resides at Napier. Horace Charles Brown, a lad, was admitted to the Hospital yesterday suffering from an injury to his leg caused through a horse falling on him. The inspector of police has received word from Oamaru that James M. Halkctt, aged 13 years, was accidentally shot by William George Watson at Ngapara yesterday afternoon while out rabbit-shooting. Last evening (says the ' Southland Times *) a rather serious trap accident occurred on the main road near Orepuki. Mr James Menpes, accompanied by Mrs Menpes and t%vo of his family, was driving homeward, when, passing the Orepuki saleyards. the horse took fright and dashed off at a furious gallop. Fearing the consequences of descending the hill at such a furious speed, Mr Menpes turned the runaway into a high bank. The impact hurled Mrs Menpes forward to the ground, one of the wheels passing oveT her limbs. One of the children was also thrown out, but escaped unhurt. Mrs Menpes's injuries consist ipf a broken shoulder-blade arid severe bruises on various parts of the body.
