Mirlh p.nd merry-making were in evidence at the Arthur Street Had lavt evening, when the members of the Otago Club held their annual social Th.'io was a large- attendance, and the visitors included the chairman of the Dunedin Centre and representatives from several of the City clubs. The first part, of the evening v.-as devoted to progressive euchre, t'.v" 1 prize 1 ! being annexed by Mrs KemniU and Mr Dempster. After supper the floor was cleared for dancing, and an enjoyable evening w.->.~ brought to a close .Miortly after midnighi. BKXKVOLENT IXSTIirTTOX. An entertainment, was given last night at. the Benevolent Institution by a parly of young, people. The programme consisted of pianoforte solos by Misses Duncan and Williams, recitations by Misses M'Lean. Griffiths. Martin. Clayton, M'Pberson. and Williams, songs by Misses Luscombe. McLean, and Kay. andean exhibition of club-swinging by Miss King. At the conclusion of the "programme a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the performers by the old folk. who showed by their frequent applause their waini appreciation of the entertainment. It would be well if more of our young folks who have, a little talent would'go out occasionally and help to brighten the lives ,of those to whom the lines have not fallen in such pleasant places as to ourselves.
