THE CASTLE STREET TRAM SERVICE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I can sympathise with your correspondent "'Resident." Tho Castle street roivicu is sadly neglected by tho tramway authorities. Your footnote shows that they do not provide fox the exceptional : y heavy loading which always takes plate at show time. Without wishing to pose as an amateur tramway manager, might I suggest that between 7 and 8 p.m.. at Winter Show time, at any rate, the cars bo doublebanked. This is always done on two trips between 5 and 6 p.m. and the eectra cars are then taken off. Tho Castle street line serves a largo residential area—from Cumberland street to the harbor. It is also the only service, to the railway station. The cars are always weli patronised, and at times like the present, when tho country people are in town, one can never depend <\n being able to board a car. When the cars ran through to Ga-ver-sham we had a very fair service. Why it was aJbandoned nobody ecems to know. The motoTmer. certainly had to hustle along, but a 10-minuto service was maintained. The present service is nominally a. 12-minute one, but you have frequently to wait over 15 minutes for a car. A number of people regularly patronise the George street cars on account of th& uncertainty of this services and un increasing number find it quicker and more certain to foot the few blocks between Albany street and the monument.—l am, etc., Leith Ward. August 5. TO THK KDITOB, Sir, —I rm not satisfied with the explanation given in the footnote to my letter. The usual service was maintained, I know, but I consider that at a time like Winter Show week, when a crowd may be expected, extra cars should be put on, sis is done at crush times and on other occasions. It is most annoying for people to be stuck up for 36 minutes, and thus miss important appointments. Tho fact still remains that a 2£min service was run in George Etrett.—l am,"etc., Resident. August 5. .
