HOCKEY. For soveral years past tho OLsgo Jariies' hoc-key ciute have been drawn on to'(.provide a, representative team to meet the picked of other provinces, but the match to bo played oil tho Gavisbrook Ground on Saturday will be the first meeting between a representative Otago team and one selected from the country clubs from this Balclutha and Milt<-n district. Throughout the country districts hockey is fast becoming a favorite winter eport for girls, and the'rapid growth of the clubs has resulted in a desire on their part to try their skill against their rivals of the city. Given a line afternoon there should be a largo attendance to see. the first, Town v. -Country ladies' hockey match played in Dunedin, rind no doubt 'a- large number of CS' ■ " ■ "
country residents who are coining to town for the Winter Show will be anxious to see how their champions compare with the. town, girls in athletic sports. The teams are as follows : Otago.— Goal, Miss A. Morgan; ba-cks, Mioses Hodges.and K. Blacli; halves— Misses Gilmour, Lyders, and M. Farra; forwards—Misses Adair, Allnntt.-L. Bennett, Aitken, and Hortelett; emergencies —Misses E. Wallace, Y. Whitehead, K. Armour.

THE 'TURF REGISTER,'
Tho appearance of the 'New Zealand Turf Register' for the season of 1910-11 will be welcomed by sportsmen who, on tho eve of the opening of another season's campaign, appreciate the opportunity afforded by the publication of studying the past year's form. This year's volume of the 'Register,' which may well be termed the sportsman's guide, includes the results of. all racing and trotting meetings at which the totalisator was used, tho rules of racing, the tables of winners of past races, entries for coming events, a list of registered colors, reports of blood stock sales, and the veiy interesting statistics showing the amounts won by eires, horses, and owners during the past season. A special feature which appeals to all students of form is the amplification of the index, which shows not only a horse's wins, but ako all occasions on which it has run into a place.
Formeden has been scratched for the New Zealand Cup. The select committee recently appointed to inquire into tho Australian Jockey Club's management has lapsed, owing to the prorogation of tho New South Wales Parliament.
