The friendly societies regard Dr Addison's amendment to the National Insurance Bill as an infringement of their self-mau-ageroent. An amendment moved Sir P. Magnus (U.) excluding earners of £lO4 annually from the.medical benefits was negatived". Sir P. Magnus 6aid that if the amendment were accepted the doctors would 00-operate loyally to make the measuro a success. Mr Lloyd George resisted tho amendment, which, he said, would exclude the industrial population from their long-accus-tomed club and medical benefits, but he accepted Dr Addison's amendment giving the local health committees power to fix a salary limit beyond which tho insured should make their own medical arrangements.
