DUNEDIN FANCIERS’ SHOW.

The Dunedin Fanciers’ Club’s Annual Show of poultry, pigeons, canaries, cats, dogs, and children’s pets opened in Sidey’s Buildings (opposite Agricultural Hall) this morning in circumstances that promised great success. The show as a whole is far ahead of past exhibitions, and in certain sections it is a record one. It is anything hut a local show. There are exhibits from centres as far north as Auckland and as far south as Riverton, whilst almost ©very town in Otago is represented. Dunedin is exceedingly well represented, and there are exhibits from Napier, Palmerston North, Wellington, Wanganui, and other places. The entries for the competition for bulldogs constitute a record for the Dominion. There are 41 of the dear creatures, and many of them are real beauties, with fortune in their faces. The entry for fox terriers is again large, and the same remark applies to spaniels. Most of them are very friendly, and fond of petting. They clamor for it, and raise a din until they are stroked. Here and there, it is true, especially as regards the big dogs and “Homo Rule” terriers, certain signs in their bearing seem to prove the wisdom of the adage that it is well to let sleeping dogs lie. There is a better entry of Pomeranians than ever before, and they axe very pretty. Public interest in poultry appears to be increasing, even though some hens these days are not very willing layers of eggs. The entry for poultry is very large, and far ahead of last year’s, there being dose on 470 exhibits. Leghorns and Wyandottes are the leading classes again. The entries for the Minorca class are somewhat better than is usual at Dunedin Show, and the same can bo said of the entries of ducks. There is a- good show of game bantams this vear, and there is a big increase in the number of pigeons shown. In the class for children’s pets tho entries show a marked increase over those in previous veurs. The entries of canaries are much the same as last year’s. The hail is not as suitable for the purpose as is the Agricultural Hall, but the officials have arranged the sections admirably. The dogs are on the ground floor, in two halls, tho bulldogs, pugs, terriers, and Pomeranians being in the smaller hall. Tho poultry and other feathered exhibits are in two divisions upstairs. The arrangements are good, and Mr E. S. Wilson, secretary, has everything working smoothly. Tho show should prove very attractive to-night and during the remainder of the week. The judging had not been completed at 3 p.m. Following are the results: — POULTRY SECTION. (Judsrcs : Mr H. G. Hunt, Leghorns; Mr P. C. Sinclair, Wyandottes; Mx E. 0.
