The sub-committee of the Otago Centre have arranged tho course for the Five-mile luterclub Championship, to be run from Wingatui racecourse oa Saturday . next. The race starts on the course opposite the grand etand. Tho trad leads along the course, thence, skirting along the far side of tho hedge and brush fence, re-entering the racecourse at the* eeven-furlong post, continuing along the. course'to the" double brush; tnen, leaving the course, tho trail doubles back outside- of the course, thence to the left over the first hill, and again taking a sharp turn to the left, continuing past the farmhouse to tho Otago Central railway line to Wingatui. re-entering the racecourse halfway up the straight. The distance travelled at this stage- will be approximately 2k milec. Tho same course is repeated, thus completing the full distance of the race (five miles), the finish of the race being in front of the judge's box. Practically tho whole of tho raco will be viewed from the Mand at Wingatui. All" the local clubs will take part in the race, and in addition it is probable that the A&birrton Harriers will be, represented by a strong team- Tho following officials have been appointed to control the race:—Referee. Mr E. Rosevpar: judges—Messrs Barclay, Callan, Saiulerccn, and Smith;

stewards—Messrs Dreavor, Dawson, Andrews, Blown, R. G. Anderson, It. Mitchell, Wiliett, and A.- Melville: time-keep-trs—Messrs Beatson, Williamson, and Townsend; starter, Mr W. Rudkjn. The trail will bo laid by iwo members of each barrier club. . I have to acknowledge with thanks an invitation to be present at the annual social of the Pacific Harriers. On Saturday, August 12, the New Zealand Interprovincial Team Championship will be'held at Auckland. Otago's to<ui\ will be> selected after nest Saturday's interclub championship, tlio form shown therein acting as the main guide to the selection of the team. Li a letter to Mr J. List (lion, secretary of the- Otago Centre), F. Frye, writing from Auckland, expresses his pleasure at Otago sending a team. He advised that the Auckland Centro were holding a test- raco prior to the selection of their team, which would probably be chosen from G. N. Hill, G. M'Kenzie, C. Reid, ADowner, A. Rodgers, J. W. E. Bennett, and C. F. Underwood. Fryo expresses bis sympathy with the Otago Centre's successful efforts to compete at the N.Z. Crosscountry Championship Meeting by enclosing a subscription toward,? t-ho funds raised for the purpose of financing the Otago team. Matters in connection with the D.A.A.C. " big" meeting, to be held at Dunedin on Saturday, January 6, 1911, are progressing. Interest in the meeting is being shown in Wellington, and promises or' strong support from that City have been forthcoming. In t-ho athletics contest- between Oxford and Cam bridge, on the one. side and Yale and Harvard on the other, at the Queen's' Club on Tuesday, Juiy 11, the English universities wen five events to four. Tht> Americans won the 120 Yards Hurdles, the High Jump, the Long Jump, and the* Haifmile Race. The English universities won the 100 Yards, 440 Yards. Ono Mile, and I wo Miles* Races, and the ihrowing-tlie-hammer contest. The time of G. A. Chisholm, of Yale, who won the 120 Yards

Hurdles in 15fsoc, •is an intsrvarsity record. There was great enthusiasm when! the English "universities won the contest on the final event. With four wins each, inI tersGt centred upon the last ■event—throwj ing tht\ hammer. A. T. Cable (Harvard) had, at the Harvard-Yale sports on May 13, thrown the implement 148 ft Bin, and. Ame-* rica had cveiy reason to expect a win. However, amid a scene of jjreafc enthusiasm, Putney won the event for England, arid tho United States were beaten by five events to four. I\ J. Baker, the Cambridge mile champion, won tho mile event in 4mi:i 27«ec. with -W. Moore (Oxford) second and H. J. Lawless (Harvard) third.
