RECEPTION AT THE BLUFF. [Special uo the Siar.] BLUFF, July 31. The Ulimaroa, with Sousa's Bsrnd aboard, reached the Bluff at 11.30 this morning, after a smooth passage. Upon arrival the Mayor of the Bluff (Mr K. A. Nieho!) tendered the visitors a welcome- on behalf of tho most southern municipality in the world, adding that the expectations or the promoters would .certainly be fulfilled, aud expressing a wish that their tour in the, Do-m.ini.-m would be as pleasant as it would bcp'rofitahlc. ilr Sousa suitably responded, and said that the vessel had had a good passage aud that the bandsmen were in the best of health. DUXEDIN SEASON TO-MORROW NIGHT. Tho Sousa- concerts enmmcuce tomorrow evening at tho Garrison Hall, and the plaits at the Dresden, which are opened for the season of five evening and four matinee performances, point to a phenomenal attendance. He has written many magazine articles, and his novels, 'The Fifth String' and 'Pipe-town Sandy,' and his year book entitled 'Through tho Year with JSousa,' stamp the author as a man of genius, with a fund of humor ami a great insight into human nature. Speaking of a. recent performance 'The Musical Courier' says: "At the. present moment Sousa is in command of the best band he ever has led, and each department of the organisation contributes its skilful share toward the ]x»rfect ensemble. At times the clarinets almost convince one that they have string quality, and no brass section in a mixed orchestra ever played with more mellow and subdued reserve that the tubas, saxophones, trombones, cornets, and sousaphones in this marvellous baud."
