Jli'.sair, Donald Reid and Co., Ltd.. report:—We held our weekly auction [sale, of grain and produce at our stores to-day. when values ruled as under : Oats.—The demand for prime Cartons and sparrow-bills is somewhat stronger. Local nocks are light, and chiefly on this account little business is passing in this market. We quote : Prime milliug, 2s 4J,d to 2o 5d : good to best feed. 2s 4d to 2s inferior to medium, 2s 2d. to 2s 3£d i>er bushel (siickß extra). Wheat.—Millers are ready buyers of prime velvet and velvet-ear, and an Tuscan has some inquiry from shippers there is a better tone in'th© market. Wo emote: Prime trailing velvet. 3e 6d to 3s 7£d ; Tnscan. etc., 3s Sid to 3s 6d: medium. 3s to 3s 5d : beet whole fowl wheat, 3s 3d to 3s 4d; medium, 3s- to 5s 2d; broken and damaged. 2s 6d to 2s lOd per buehel (sacks extra). Potatoes. —Con<agnmejnts have slackened considerably, and now that local supplies have been to some extent worked off, values idiow a little recovery. HIGH COMMISSIONERS REPORT, j WELLINGTON, July 31. Tho High Commissioner cabled from London on. Jury 29 (the quotations, unless otherwise specified, are the average market prices on spot) : Mutton, — No alteration in the market since last week : weather too dry. Quotation : Canterbury, 3-3 d; North Island, 3|d. Lamb is in better demand. Canterbury, 5d : other than Canterbury, 4|d; Biver Plafce, 4£d. The beef. market is very dull, there being scarcely any demand. It is reported that River" Plate chilled beef has been stored and frozen. New Zealand, hinds 3£d, forss 2id. Butter.—Market firm, with a hardening tendency on account of the drought. Australian." li2s; "Danish, 1225; Siberian, 110s; New Zealand, second class quality, stored, ,108s. Hemp.—Market steady, with a very good demand at last quotations. Colored, 61s: white, 60s. Hemp : Market very quiet; nothing doing. New Zealand, good fair, on, spot, £2l; fair grade, £2O; fair eurrent Manila, £2l: July-Sep w tember at same price. The output from Manila for the week was 23,000 bake. Cocksfoot Seed.—Market dull; holders 'firm for New Zealand seed on account of small supply; cannot quote. .Continental and American crops are reported heavy* , and of good quality.
