COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS AT PLAY. f Special to thk Star.] BALCLUTHA, July 29. Tho fifth animal match between the commercial travellers of Otago and Southland was played here to-day in Rood weather on a dry ground. Each side had two wins to its credit, and exceptional interest was taken in tho game. About 150 “ commercials ” wore present, besides heads of firms who came from Dunedin by motor car. A good game resulted iu a win for Southland by 12 points to 7. The Southlanders had much the best of the game in the first spell. Tries were got for tho winners by Russell and Leggat (2), and the spell ended: Southland 9, Otago nil. In the second spell the Illuos rallied, and White (Otago) nearly got in. The same player shortly afterwards got across. Shaw made a good attempt at goal. Leggat then obtained another try for the Southerners. Some straggling play followed, of which Southland had the best, hut towards the close Otago again rallied, and smart work was shown by Collie, White, and Low, the latter potting a goal. Tile game ended with the ball close to Southland’s line. Mr W. J. Wilson (Dunedin) made a good referee. The luncheon at Vozcy’s was a great success. Among those present were Messrs P. R. Sargood, C. G. Wilson, J. A. Ewcn, and A. Anderson (Dunedin).
