Messrs J. London and Lcthaby waited upon the council to ask them to allow a piece of land situated in the Taieri County, near Green Island, to bo transferred into the Green Island Borough. Mr Loudon stated that they bad Iwnght a vpieco of land there and sold it in sections. At the time of selling the land they pave an understanding that it would bo brought into Green Island Borough for various reasons, including the fact that the borough was embarking upon a water supply scheme, and electric light wa<s contiguous to the projjorty, and a drainage scheme was under consideration. The council had raised as an objection to the projmsal the. fact that a piece of the adjoining property which was not being taken in would he depreciated in value, but the reverse was the case, because it would increase the value of the land. —Cr Freeman said that the only objection to the scheme was that if it were put through the council would have a hip strip of boundary roads on their hands. It would bo better if the remaining piece of land were included.— Mr Loudon stated that the owner of the property refused to go in.—'liny deputation havinp retired, it was decided that the council were not prepared io withdraw their objections, but were willing to eo-operate with the pet’.-, tinners and the. The bridge is situated in an old settled district and is required to be raised principally for the benefit of Mr M'Kegg’s river boats. I arn of opinion, therefore, that any money necessary for this work should be found by the council and Mr M’Kegg.”—air -MTvogg waited upon the council in support of his application.—lt was decid’d that the bridge be raised at a cost not to exceed £IOO, Mr M‘Kegg to contribute L2b, a similar amount to be con- ' tributed by the Otohia and Maungatua ; ridings, and the general fund. j The Engineer's report was adopted. The Sanitary Inspector reported htv- j ing visited the Kaikorai Stream several j limes during the month, -and found it. j in fairly good condition. The vaiious works on the stream were endeavoring to keep it as free as possible from pollution. The slaughter-houses were visited, and found fairly satisfactory.
