TLo settlements recently effected by i means of the Conciliation Council in Napier ! have given a great amount of satisfaction j to the employers and employees, and both parties are loud in their praise of the work ! being done by the Conciliation Commisi sioncr (Mr P. Hally). In the course of la conversation with a. ‘Hawke’s Bay i Herald ’ representative, one of tho union secretaries said : “Mr Hally is the right man in the right place. Why, some of tho settlements effected by him recently have appeared almost hopeless when first taken to tho council.” In answer to a question as to the valne of conciliation, the secretary said that all parties fully realised that conciliation, as carried out there, was an unqualified success. The agreement fixed in connection with the hotel workers is a fair example of what can be done by this means.
