The following reports by the engineer will bo submitted at to-morrow's meeting of tiie Otago Harbor' Board : Dredging.•—Dredge 222 on the 10th of this mouth skill eel her moorings in the Upper Harbor and lelaid them near the entrance to the new dock. She is now engaged in dredging a berth for tho propesed dock wharf. From the lofii Juno, when the dredgo went Jino commission after her annual overhaul, to tho oikh June, 335 cubic yards were removed from a shoal patch at the entrance; to tho cross channel, b\3oo cubic yards from the Victoria channel in the vicinity of piles 7 and 8, and 11,662 cubic yards from the Victoria wharf swinging bar-in, making a total of 20,b25 cubic yards, which were deposited at the Vulcan and pumped on to the reclamation between Frederick and Mason streets. Dredge Vulcan is at prosent receiving spoil from dredge 404, which consists of a huge quantity of oyster shells. Tho reclamation area, is Hearing completion. Tho northern end consists of sludge from the dredged material, and is of a very soft nature. Arrangements are being made to displace this Materia! <u to the area, north of I'Tcderick street, and to retain the heavier material for the. present, reclamation. Tho pump runner and shaft are in bad condition, causing a loo; of efficiency iu the. pump. It is necessary that, these receive immediate attention. Dredge 404 finished at piles 14 and lo on tho 4th insi., ami changed her moorings to pile 20 to remove a small shoal. She finished at pile 20 on tin10th insf., and lelaid her moorings a ".■ pile 1. Ilor second set of moorings are at Kitchener street wharf. During Juno dredge 40-1 removed 15,200 cubir yauis from piles 14 and 15. Victoria channel, and 5,5U0 cubic yards from die .Kttcbener strcet berth, making a. total of .ie,700 cubic yards. Dredge Priest.man ;s Icing used for the purpose of liriviug the loi.k drill at Port Chalmers. It s expected to have the present rock rem >vd by the end of this month. 'J'ho wharf Jaborurs' building is completed with the. exception of the connection to the sewer, which the Drainage Board have been asked to make.
