THE COUNCIL’S INCONSISTENCY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I would like to draw your attention to an inconsistency on the part of the City Council. A short time ago the Defence Department applied for a- piece of land on the Town Belt for training purposes, which was promptly refused. A week or so later a tennis club make a similar application, which is as promptly granted. Possibly the City Council consider tennis of greater importance than the defence of our Dominion. But have they any right to grant to any club the privilege of making an enclosure on any part of the Belt and closing a road that has been much used for over 30 years and is a great convenience to many people? I refer to what is being done on the Asylum Ground at the present time. —I am, etc., A Constant User. July 25.
