The late Mr Walter Savill (of the Shapl Savill Company), who left an estate valued at over a million and a-hal£, left £5,000 } to the Royal Merchants' Seamen's Orphanage, a like sum to the Sussex County Hospital, £2,000 to the Royal Hospital for Incurables at Putney, and £I,OOO to hie managing clerk (Mr S. D. Davie) " if still in my service." He stated in his will : " If either during my lifetime or after my death any child or remote issue of mine shall not profess the Protestant religion, or shall forsake the Protestant relijgion and adopt the Roman Catholic or any other religion, then and in every such case, and as from the occurrence of such event, such child or remoter issue of mine shall absolutely forfeit and lose all share and participation in, and right of power over the principal and income of all and every part of my residuary estate then not actually paid or transferred." On June 11 Mr T. E. Woodward flew in his Farman military biplane, carrying as a passenger Mitaook Poki, a member of the Maori troupe performing at the White City, London. The chief, on descending, exclaimed : " It is marvellous, but I was not the least bit afraid."
