' (Received May 23, at 9.51 a.m.) A Chinese merchant who has returned from China states that the recent uprising was an attempt by two or three thousand youths and young men to overthrow thef Manchu rule in Canton and tho provinces. They were well armed, but lacked organisation, and had since been quelled. Great surveillance was being exercised over queueless persons, because 70 per cent, of tho revolutionaries were without that appendage.
