FORBURY TROTTING CLUB. I Second Day.—Wednesday, M/usch 1. The Forbury Park Trotting Club's meeting was continued to-day in fine weather. There was a very large attendance, and it was noted with satisfaction, that the- watercart had been freely Used on tho track, thereby preventing tho dust from rising. Tho Citizens' Band played on the lawn. After the first race tho stewards called in J. M'Kewen for an explanation as to the running of Tho Urchin on Friday last. This horse, it may bo mentioned, started tenth in tho order of favoritism. After hearing the owner's explanation the stewards were satisfied. Another matter for the stewards at the same meeting was as to Mr J. M'Cutcheon, who had the horse Raver.schild engaged in the Cup. The stewards had a doubt as to whether Mr M'Cutcheon, who has been ill, was fit to ride. The stewards therefore called in their doctor (Dr Howard), who gave it as his opinion that Mr M'Cutcheon was not fit to* ride, whereupon they refused to allow Mr M'Cutcheon to have a mount. After two furlongs Gianella had eight lengths lead off Claremont. Royal Vesta got the second place in tho back 6tretph, and the race was quite between tho two. Pringle, holding his mare very steady, won by two lengths, having it ea6y in the last few strides. Gianella was favorite. Adonis cased up in tho straight, and Marvin finished third. 'Time, 3min 55sec. THE DEATH OP SLAVE AWAY. CHRISTCHURCH, March 1. The jury's- verdict in awarding Mr Greenwood £4OO damages for the death of the marc Slaveaway was reviewed by counsel this morning. Objection was taken by counsel for the defendant that no issues had been put to the jury, and that the verdict was not in accordance with the statement of claim. Judge said the jury had found negligence on the defendant's part, but there was no direct, finding (lint (he injury was due to the mare being kicked by defendant's horse. Won by a length, half a length between second and third. Time, lmin lb^WSmithfield Handicap, of 80 sovs. 6f.~Formless (9.9) 1, Kostroma (9-4) 2, Casa Nova (7.7) 3. Won by a bare length.
