THE ROMAN CATHOLIC DEMANDS
[Per Umtep Press Association.] AUCKLAND. February 23. Bishop Cleary has issued a pastoral to be read at the Roman Catholic churches on Sunday next- It isays: "Wo demand a jpst proportion of tho taxation which ve ourselves pay for secular education. The results which our schools achieve are testified t© by the State's inspectors. Our demand is identical in principle with the State system for the reform of inebriates by the Salvation Army. The Catholics onlv ask that, the State having been satisfied that the work of education which they conscientiously do ia according to State specifications and State requirements, they shall be treated in the, same way at least.
