CRICKET.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Allow :ne to answer a lotter in your paper over T. H. Broomfield on tho 21st inst., and to stato tlie facts in ios, pont to the Grange v. Albion B match. I aaked the Albion captain's permission, to field three substitutes (which is allowable by consent of the opposing captain), not play as he stated. To prove my statement, 1 have boen captain or deputy captain for tho last three years, and I havo never on any occasion batted a substitute, so I am not very likely to make a mistake on this particular occasion. I did not accuse him on this occasion of being untruthful, as ho may havo misunderstood me. I did not know he was batting his substitute until after tho close, of tho first innings. He then makes the ridiculous statement, seeing they could not win—Albion 100, Grange, 88 for sovon wickets, and tho n<nout juan one wlio on two occasions this season made sufficient rims to win after the last man was in. Ho aleo says that the Albion team (I think ho means himself) are ever willing to carry out the laws and regulations of the Association. If he had done no on this occasion it would havo saved considerable time and unpleasantness, lie says a win or a loss is all the same to them. Then tliere was no necessity for him to bat the substitute. Tho Grange team at tht3 particular time were equal with soveral other teams for tho shield. The Grange Cricket Club havo not been notified by the Otago Crkkot Association of disqualification, therefore they could not refuse to accept tho appeal.—l am, etc.., S. Dt-'nkle'v, Captain Grange Third Grado Team. February 23.
