Present at tho meeting last night; The Mayor (Mr I). C. Cameron) and Crs Robertson, Gore, Thompson, Harris, M'Donald, Allen, and Clark. The Caversham Defence Cadets asked for tho us© of Culling Park for a fourdays’ camp.—Tho Mayor said he had given permission to camp in Alexandra Park. The St. Kilda Fire Brigade asked for a contribution towards tho cost of sending a team to tho demonstration at Hokitika. —Or M'Donald moved to grant £2o.—Carried. Mr L. 0. Beal wrote asking the Council to certify to the Drainage Board that the Council were satisfied with the formation of tho channels and water tables in tho township of Regent Park. —Referred to Works Committee. The Works, Water, and Lighting Committee recommended that tho Normality street footpath be continued to Mr F. Gaffney’s boundary; also that a track bo formed between Do Carlo street and Council street in Bird street. The Committee reported 'that they had authorised the inspector to grade tho channel in Now street. The request for a footpath in Gourley street is held over pending an opinion as to whether money can be spent on this street, as it has never been taken over bv the Council. Tho dork had been instructed to obtain all information as to prices in connection with Cr Thompson’s motion with reference to importing tar. Tho :n----spector had been instructed to try the experiment of top-dressing tho sides of Princes street with cinder and quarry dust—ono article on each sido—to kill tho grass and weeds. The matter of Urn formation of Bird and Dalgcty streets had boon referred to a sub-committee to report to the Council. Tho dork had boa i instructed to notify residents to cut overhanging hedges. The Committee bad m recommendation to make regarding tho Domain Board’s letter stating that they cannot agree to any reduction in tho present width of the entrance to the beach. —In so far as the above items were concerned the report was adopted without alteration. The Works Committee reported that they had no recommendation to make in respect to tho letter stating that tho Domain Board cannot in tho meantime erect sanitary conveniences at the beach, but would grant sites—Or Thompson said lie thought they ought to go further than this. The Council could not put up conveniences on the Board’s property, but the Council should urge upon the Board the duty of providin'' not for the few St. Kilda ratepayers, but tho thousands of tho Board’s clients who wont out surf bathing, etc. Ho would move to that effect. —Cr M Donald i seconded, and thought the Council should 1 send a deputation to the Boanl Tho pro- : sent position was disgraceful.—The Mayor i S aid that ho approved of the motion. The Surf Bathing Club wore taking tho matter up. Mr Hancock had said that tho Domain ' Board recognised the necessity for convcni- ; cucos, but had no money at present.—Cr Harris was quite in accord with tho motion, and suggested that tho Counoil should ; forward a copy of the letter to tho City Council and other contributing bodies, to see if they would take tho matter up.— i This clause of the report was amended by carrying Cr Thompson s motion. The Finance, General, Reserves, Tramways, and Firo Brigade Committee recommended that accounts amounting to £193 i 7 6 7J Le passed for payment; that tho i lamplighters application for an increase of I wages be held over until the now lamps : are erected j that Mr A. A. Howes be not granted a remission of tfio 10 per cent, penalty; that tho Council do not grant permission for a transformer sub-station on Alexandra Park, but grant a site in (Scott street; that Fireman Drummond bo ! granted a long-service medal; that Alexandra Park bo weeded. Tho Committee reported that tho mayor and town clerk had been left to arrange as to taking soil from Alfred street to top dress Alexandra Park.—Cr Allen moved that the lamplighter’s application bo referred back.— Tills was not seconded. —Report adopted. The finance report showed that the district fund account stood at £738 12s 6d debit, tho special loan account £627 14s lOd credit, the special loan account No. 2 £1,665 6s lOd credit, and the drainage and sewerage account £l3 17s credit. Mr J. B. Dick, inspector, reported in detail as to ourreut works; also that 4

' number of water services had been bursting' recently, and he asked that the matter of using gasprpo for all new services be considered, as the galvanised iron pipe was not satisfactory.—This recommendation wa« referred to the Water Committee, i Tho Band Rotunda Committee recommended that Mrs Hards be asked to apply to the Domain Board for a site for swings j also that a gate be erected at tho south corner of the rotunda grounds. —Report adopted. i Only one tender was received for jarrah kerbing, and it was informal.
