In tho meantime O'Connor was pressing Ferrio hard, hut tho latter, who lias figured so often in these championships, bided his time, and being ;t, game, ahead played for draws, which he accomplished, and entered tho final, to find his opponent in Scott, who had had identical scores. —••Semi-final Round.--W. Ward and O’Connor, playing for the third and fourth prizes, managed lour draws. Though Ferric was now looked upon as tfie probable winner, there was any amount of interest centred in his Contest wit it Scott, and so the. play went on. 'Three more games wero played, each resulting in draws, though some thought Ferric missed a. win in the. sixth. Want and O'Connor drawing the whole of their nix games, agreed to divide tho third and fourth piizcs. After a short rest tho players faced each other for tho hist time in tho contest. Ketftt had the black men in their next “Dundee.” The play was conducted throughout on very safe lines, lasting fur a little over an hour, end resulted in a draw as follows:—Black—2 3 5 6 7 9 11 15 20. White—l 61821222526 27 31 33. Black (Scott)- to plav—6-10, 18-14, 10-17, 21-14, 19-18, 22-8, 3-19 ; 32-28, drawn. Tima Ferric won the championship for the fifth time.
