At the monthly meeting; of the Council of the Socie'tv there were present Dr Penham (president), Dr Emily Siedeberg and Mr A. H. Grmliug; (vteeprosidonts), Rev. Knowles-Smith, Dr Winifred Bathgate, Mosdames L. Harris, \V. A. Moore, and the hon. secretary. . A vote of thanks to the president lor his recent lecture, " (''acts of Heredity and tlio Problems of Eugenics," was passed. • . Tlio correspondence received at the meeting included a letter from tho Rev. W. .1. L. Closs, JJ.A., of Christchurch, speaking; of the enthusiasm with which the people of that city are taking; up tho subject. lie wrote: —"1 expect anil trust that the result- will be. a branch of the Association here." The Hon. Secretary of the London Society, in her last letter, forwards heartiest congratulations on the formation of the society in Dunedin. She adds:—"Sir Francis Galton is delighted at this outcome of the work commenced by him over forty-live years ago." She emphasised the special value of the ' Eugenics Review' and the • Galton Eugenics Laboratory Lecture Scries.' The titles of these lectures are: ' The, Scope and Importance to the State of the Science of National Eugenics,' 'The Groundwork of Eugenics,' 'The Relative Strength of Nurture and Nature,' ' On the Marriage of First Cousins,' 'The Problem of Practical Eugenics,' 'Nature and Nurture: The Problem of the Future.' Mr Montague Crackanthorpe. K.C., the president, of the London society, in his letter of October 23 last to the Dunedin. branch acknowledging receipt of the newspaper report of the inaugural meeting here, oic, wrote: — " It shows most clearly that the principles of the work of the parent society have been fully grasped by those who spoke thereat."
