I . The Legislature 'Committee investigating the charges of corruption made against (he New York State Government have received striking testimony supporting the charges. Mr Olto Foelker, the chief witness, now a. representative in Congress, ami formerly a State Senator, who risked liL> life two years ago by being carrie<l on his sickbed into the Senate Chamber to vote for .Mr Hnghes'.s Bill against racetrack gambling, declared that Mr Patrick M'Carren, since dead, who was a State Senator bnd leader of iho Democrats in Brooklyn, offered to let him he- reelected practically unopposed if he would vote agaiuM Mr Hughes's liill. Mr Fredcrick Schrot-der. then Quarantine Commissioner, oik-red a cash bribe of £IO.OOO for the .-aine purpo.M-. Mr Sclnoeder .'.-. now in prison for laiceny from a hank. Mr Frank llardner. formerly a State Senator and now under indictment for bribery, was examined, but refused to answer<|ue«tion.s. Mr Foeiker testified that Mr Cardnev otfere.d him a bribe of £2.000.
