Hitherto regatta day haa been the one field day in tho year for tho Port hotels. Tho Regatta Committee when they decided to hold the regatta on the 26th did so fii order thas if tho matter were unfavorable on that day the regatta could bo held the following day, which is to bo observed as Boxing Day. Wheu that decision was arrived at the closing of hotels on the 26th was. not announced. It )as been suggested that tho Regatta Committee alter their date to the 27th, but this is said to be impracticable for several Itabmis, ch ;, if of which is the fact that tho train services have been already arranged "lor with the railway department. It appears that although tho publicans at Port Chalmers will not lie allowed to open their bars on the 26th, they can bo called ou to supply lunch: to tho people attending tho regatta.
