WEST HARBOR COUNCIL

Tho Mayor (Mr IL E. Mollcr) and Crs Blackie, Crawley, Jones, Barker, Connor, Edwards, Bell, and Forgio attended the monthly meeting of tho West Harbor Council, held last night. —Harbor Board Representation.— Tho member for tho district wrote stating that West Harbor had been added to tho Port Chalmers district to elect three members to tho Ota-go Harbor Board. — Tho Mayor said that West Harlwr had desired to havo one member for their district, but they had not a large enough population for that. Then the question arose of their being included in Dunedin or Port Chalmers, and ho had chosen Port, as they would be "swallowed up" in Dunedin. 'it had been said that tho alteration had been brought about by the influence of West Harbor. All he had 1o eay to that was'that if West Harbor had bo much influence in Wellington it showed that it was progressive, and not likely to he left behind. He did not think that (ho day woidd ever come when they would paint out "West Harbor" and put up "Port dial mere." —Water Scheme. —

Tho Town Clerk, Dunedin, wrote that the question of laying a 6in main from George street to Harbor terrace to augment tho proposed West Harbor supply would bo submitted to the Council for consideration, subject to the West Harbor Borough Council agreeing to pay half cost of tho same, and conforming to such other incidental conditions as might thereafter bo mutually agreed upon. —Referred to tho Water Committee.

Const on, engineer, wrote:—(l) The. work I offer to carry out. for £9 9s includes a complete report on the proposed water supply scheme, with the schedules of the streets to be reticulated, size of mains, and estimate, of the. cost, to gether with a plan of the, area to be icticulated, suitable, for your Council's preliminary requirements and for exhibiting to the "mooting of ratepayers. This work will be on the same lines as thai, curried out for the, Ray Town Board, which the mayor has inspected at my office. Whether the, poll k carried or not the, report and plan are your property. (2) Tha work offered to be carried out for the 4 J per cent, includes the. whole, of the engineering work from inception to completion, so that in ihe event of the poll being earned .and the work proceeded with, tho £9 9s for preliminary work will not 1)5 charged.—The report was received, and Mr Couston was appointed engineer. —'Railway Matters. — The Hon. .1. A. 'Millar, M.V., and Mr K. 11. Claik. M.P., wroto statins; that tlie proposal to alter the. RavensbouriioDunedin railway time-fable would receive their attention.—Received. Tho Minister of Railways wroto that, the request, to open the, gate at tho north end of I"hinedin railway station could not be complied with, as it would encourage, trespass in ;;• —Received. —Works Committee. — Tho Works Committee recommended that tenders be called for metal for tho boundary road ; that tho Main road bo metalled" where required at a cost of £IOO, under Barclay's contract; that tcndeis bo called for £2OO worth of metal to be, deposited on tho Main, road where required. —Adopted. —Dog Ta-T.— The dog Lix was fixed at 7s 6d.
