The strikers at Gilfachgoch thrashed some carpenters who were erecting a shed for the Munster Fusiliers, believing that tho carpenters had been imported to stoke for tho pumps. Twenty-seven thousand anthracite miners havo refused the Aberdare. deputation's request for a general strike in tho Abcrdare district. Speaking at Huddersncld, Mr Keir Hardie said that the miners in South Wales had got tho enginemon and stokers to come out because they knew that the mines would till with water," and that the owners would then want a settlement. It wa6 true that tho Labor-Socialist party wore responsible for (he labor unrest.
