LODGE ANNIVERSARY
The thirty-eighth anniversary of Pioneer Lodge, 1.0. G.T., was celebrated at the Waratah Tea Rooms last night. There was a large attendance of members and their friends, and a very pleasant and profitable evening was spent. Refreshments were first provided, then Chief Templar Bro. L. Macfarlane took charge of the toast list and the musical programme, Bro I). C. Cameron, G.C.T., responding to the toast of the Grand Lodge of Now Zealand, mentioned that he and his wife joined tho Pioneer Lodge thirty-eight years ago, and had been constant attend ants ever since. Ho pointed out that the Southern Cross Lodge, No. 1, was established on September 9, 1872, and their own lodge a few months later. He referred to the spread of their Order in America and Europe, and said that progress was largely duo to the zeal of the early pioneers. Their ritual was now printed in twenty different languages. The progress of Good Templary was duo to the wise and true principles on which it had been founded—principles that had been taken as tho platform of other temperance organisations that, in common with the Order, strove for National Prohibition. Mrs. Cameron- (who is grand superinten-dent-of fife juvenile work), Bro.:T; .Dalton, and .Bro. D. Gain-also gave short addresses. Those .who contributed to tho musical part of the programme were Misses Evans, L. Scott, M. Bain. Bartou,-and Johnston, and Messrs W. Halims, L. Macfarlane, and Stubbs, and instrumental items by Miss M. Patterson (piano solo) and Mr J. A. Wallace (accompanied by Mr J. 0. Easton). (Miss M. Bain gave a recitation.
