MR JOSEPH M‘CABE

Only about forty-one years of age, Mr M ‘Cabo has attained a world-wide reputation as a man of remarkable intellectual ability. As a scholar bo stands in tho front rank. His works as an author are widely known, and some of them aro recognised as the text books and leading authorities on the subjects dealt with—such as ‘ St. Augustine and His Age,.’ In tho words of the London 1 Spectator,’ ho is “ an accurate and honest worker, whose facts can always be relied on.” Fie has had a remarkable career and an exceptionally wide training and experience. For some years bo was Professor of Philosophy and Ecclesiastical History at St. Antony’s College, and ho took the course of Oriental languages at Louvain University. This part of his career closed at' the, early age of twenty-eight, when he was rector of Buckingham College. Since then he has devoted much of his time to the study of the scientific side of modern culture, especially in its bearing on evolution. Mr M’Cabe addresses himself to the general public, and has been particularly successful in presenting the more fascinating results of modern science in clear, simple, and attractive language. His collection of hundreds of beautiful lantern slides includes a large number from his own photographs of rare objects in English and Continental scientific collections. For these lectures he has read practically- tho whole of recent French, German, Italian, English, and American literature on the subject. Mr M’Cabe is said to be a talented elocutionist and a, gifted speaker.
