.SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING. At the School of Engineering at Canterbury College, which reopens for the session j.OIO on O.c 14t!t March, provision is now made for the training of engineers in every branch of the proffpsio.". "Theoretical ii;titructiou by means of lectures aiul practical instruction in the laboratories given in steam and gas engine engineering, hvfinuilic engineering, constructive engineering, marine engineering, railway engineering, electrical engineering, and in surveying. In this latter subject .Mr W. F. itobinson, aulhoused surveyor, has recently been appointed lecturer, and special attention i.; now being paid to the training of civil engineers and surveyors. A new and well-equipped hydraulic laboratory has been added to the buildings, and wii! bo opened during the present session. There are complete courses qualifying for the degrees of the University of New Zealand, courses of less ditlicufty for tha AsBociateehip of the school (which are eminently suitable for young men taking up engineering work in the Dominion), and there are evening courses for these desirous of obtaining a third marine engineer's certificate, and for apprentices and others engaged in all branches of engineering. There is a very considerable demand for the qualified engineers turned out by the school, and it may be mentioned that its university courses in'engineering are, with, those of" the M'Gill University, the only courses outside England officially recognised by the Institution of Civil Engineers. A liberal scheme of scholarehipr> has been instituted by the Board of Governors.
